Apple unveils new iPhone software V4

Today is the day when Apple (read: Steve Jobs) reveals the new features of its forthcoming iPhone Operating System – the brain of the iPhone itself. For the avoidance of doubt, tomorrow is not the day that it will be available, hence our reason for calling this a “paper launch”.
Apple’s primary goal here is to stimulate interest in the product and the Operating System, and to let people know of the new features so that their buying decisions are not swayed away from iPhone on the basis of features that are currently missing, but which will be added.
So, what can we hope / expect? The major one, we believe, will be multi-tasking. Currently if you are, say, browsing an internet page and receive a text message, you have to exist Safari to check your message. Basically, every time you close an application you are returned to your home screen. Users have been clamouring for this functionality since the first iPhone’s release, and Apple’s excuse has always been that performance and battery life would suffer if it let users multi-task.
The fact that “jailbroken” iPhones have been able to do this for some time, and the launch of the more powerful iPhone 3GS, may finally compel Apple to do the right thing by its customers and deliver something that we truly want!
Our IT Support staff are looking forward to their new features I can tell you!
